Building the Longtermism Community

Cultivating the present connections that will nurture future possibilities.

To overcome the greatest challenges of our time – like managing risks from emerging technologies, safeguarding the climate, and figuring out how to steer civilisation – we need more talented, ambitious, and altruistic people to direct their energies to solving these problems.

We aim to identify, connect, and inspire those who are, or who could become, serious about doing good. Any investment we make into sustainably building the longtermism community has a multiplying effect on our work, and will pay enormous dividends in the future.

80,000 Hours
Directing global talent for the good of the world.
Career choice, for many people, is the primary determinant of one’s impact on the world. 80,000 Hours is a research and advocacy organisation that helps concerned individuals ask themselves how they can use their skills for good. It provides easy-to-read reports on humanity’s pressing problems, career planning advice, inspiring media about longtermists, and facilitates job opportunities. Many people doing highly impactful work today were inspired by 80,000 hours, and this trend shows no sign of slowing.

Its most prominent recurring event, EA Global, has become the central social event of the community, a frequent catalyst for meaningful relationships and intellectual advances.
Good Impressions
Good Impressions
Making sure news of the best longtermist work reaches the right audience.
To succeed, the longtermism community will need to clearly communicate its key messages, big wins, and concrete asks to a broad audience. Knowing this, Longview has provided seed funding for a longtermist-aligned digital marketing agency, Good Impressions, to make sure that there is an audience for the best content created about the future of humanity. It’s been the case, previously, that brief brushes with the work of key longtermist thinkers have led to brilliant careers, and the number of such encounters can be maximised.
