Longview Philanthropy's mission and activities

Longview Philanthropy is a non-profit based in London and Oxford. We design and execute bespoke giving strategies for major donors. Our grant recommendations are driven by the conviction that we can use evidence and reason to find the highest-impact opportunities in the world. We focus on global challenges that could transform our future for many generations to come, including safely navigating emerging technologies and fostering a society with a more long-term outlook. Everything we offer is free-of-charge, independent, and reviewed by external experts. We currently advise donors in Europe, North America and Asia, whose giving capacity ranges from $1 million p.a. to several billion. 


Alongside advising donors on where to give, we conduct outreach and connect major philanthropists to relevant research and experts in order to share the concepts behind effective philanthropy and longtermism with them.

The overarching responsibility of the Junior Operations Analyst will be to ensure Longview has the optimal environment for our team to deliver on our mission. We are looking for someone who is passionate about understanding and creating this.


The responsibilities for this role are:

  • Assisting the team with a variety of tasks both work-related and personal: helping the team be as productive as possible by executing on tasks such as ordering supplies, researching products, booking restaurants, returning packages, etc. 

  • Managing the office:

    • Proactively taking on and improving inefficient processes e.g. expense reconciliation.   

    • Ensuring the team has the right setup to work optimally, including researching and ordering new tech when required, doing a regular grocery order.

    • Troubleshooting any issues which arise, e.g. broken equipment,  late deliveries, dealing with the office landlord.

  • Organising team socials and retreats: including quarterly team days, and other ad hoc team building activities.  

  • Booking business travel arrangements: book flights, transportation, restaurants and lodgings for the team.

  • Monitoring budgets and expenses: compiling regular expense reports, paying invoices, monitoring budgets for various projects. 

  • Supporting our events programme and internal operations: working alongside our Senior Operations Analyst, Katie Hearsum

  • Supporting our recruitment process: working alongside our Managing Director, Simran Dhaliwal.

  • Everything else: a wide variety of tasks not listed above (e.g. attending Longview events with the team to ensure they run smoothly). 

The successful candidate will be managed by our Managing Director, Simran Dhaliwal (which involves weekly 1-1s and regular performance reviews).

Salary, Benefits and Location

  • This role is in-person and London based. We are open to this role being part-time or full-time, depending on candidate preference.

  • We have an office in the beautiful, plant-filled Second Home Spitalfields

  • Starting salary of £25,000 - £40,000 p.a. (pro-rated if part-time), dependent on experience and skills.

  • Benefits include: generous paid vacation time, 10% employer pension contribution, equipment budget, training budget, well-being budget, private healthcare (Bupa) and dental care, and a well-stocked office fridge. 

  • We also have flexible working hours and some team members regularly work from home. We would request that new colleagues work from the office for the first c. 3 months to ensure a smooth onboarding period. We typically work regular hours (c. 9am-6pm) but occasionally work outside of this when important, time-sensitive projects require it or when attending/hosting events.

Application Process

  • First stage: CV, short application form & standardised test

    • Once you have submitted the short application form and emailed your CV to jobs@longview.org, you will be emailed the next working day with instructions to complete the online standardised test. 

    • We will let you know the outcome of your application within 10 working days of you completing all components of this stage.

    • Deadline: midnight GMT, Sunday 3 October 2021. Note that we may close applications early if a candidate is successfully hired before the deadline.  

  • Second stage: paid work task (3 hours)

    • We expect this stage to conclude by Sunday 17 October.

    • We will pay candidates £50/hr (total £150) for completing this stage.

  • Third stage: in-person interview (1 hour)

    • We expect interviews to take place w/c 18 October.

  • Fourth and final stage: in-person 2-3 day work trial

    • We recognise an in-person trial is a significant commitment. Compensation will be provided to all candidates who complete a work trial (£750/working week). We are keen to work with the final candidate(s) to ensure they are able to complete a work trial, and aim to be flexible and accommodating. Please reach out if you are interested in applying but think you’d be unable to complete a work trial.

    • We expect in-person work trials to take place w/c 25 October but will be flexible to accommodate candidates availability.
