Key Information

Role: The Grants and Compliance Manager/Associate will work within the Operations team to process outgoing and incoming grants, and help ensure Longview’s grantmaking is efficient, compliant, and well-coordinated across teams. In 2026, we aim to double the amount of grants we process. The Manager/Associate will also help ensure organizational compliance with legal and regulatory requirements. Note that depending on the candidate’s experience, we may offer this role at the Manager or Associate level.

Impact in this role: Grants are central to Longview’s mission of reducing risks from global challenges through high-impact philanthropy. Moving money to high-impact people and projects is our central lever of impact. The Grants and Compliance Manager/Associate will process millions of dollars of grants annually, ensuring grantees have the resources they need to continue their important work. 

Location: This position is full-time, with a preference for candidates able to work in-office, located in London, Washington DC, the San Francisco Bay Area, or New York City. Fully remote work will be considered for exceptional candidates (US only).

Compensation: These ranges are for individuals working from London, New York City, Washington DC, or the San Francisco Bay Area. Compensation may be adjusted downward for other locations.

  • Total compensation: 
    • Base salary: 
      • £65,000-£78,000 GBP
      • $85,327-$102,393 USD
    • Unconditional 401(k) (US) / pension (UK) contribution: 10% of base salary

Responsibilities

General

The Grants and Compliance Manager/Associate will maintain and improve our grants processing systems, including processing the receipt and disbursement of tens of millions of dollars’ worth of grants annually. They will report to Andrew Player, our Head of Grants Management & Compliance.

  • Grants management
    • Process outgoing grants to Longview’s grant recipients.
    • Provide grants processing support to philanthropists advised by Longview.
    • Ensure all grants conform to our Grantmaking Policy and meet legal requirements.
    • Ensure adequate grantee reporting.
    • Facilitate incoming grants to Longview itself.
    • Communicate with grantees to resolve inquiries.
  • Systems and data support
    • Support the Advising team with user-friendly and up-to-date grants data.
    • Manage and improve grants tracking systems, moving from current systems based in Airtable to helping implement a new grants management system in 2026.
    • Support Programs team with systems and process improvements between grant investigation and grant processing.
    • Identify opportunities to streamline grant workflows.
    • Ensure data integrity and consistency across all systems.
  • Compliance
    • Fulfill statutory reporting requirements for our US and UK entities.
    • Ensure our US and UK entities’ boards meet their compliance requirements.
    • Implement compliance policies across the organization.

Outcomes

  • Within three months of starting:
    • Autonomously process grants from our US and UK entities to grantees.
    • Autonomously process donations from donors to our US and UK entities.
    • Manage and help improve grants tracking systems.
    • Audit existing grant data for accuracy and completeness.
    • Understand and start to prepare US and UK statutory filings.

Essential Skills, Abilities, and Attributes

Experience

  • At least 2 years’ experience in nonprofit operations roles.
  • Experience in nonprofit grants management.

Abilities and Attributes

  • Familiarity with grants management processes at a charity or foundation, ideally in the US and/or UK.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive financial and organizational information with confidentiality.
  • Outstanding attention to detail: ability to execute on high-stakes tasks (e.g. multi-million dollar transfers) without error.
  • Excellent communication skills: the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with internal and high-stakes external stakeholders.
  • Interest in systems improvements: ability to continually assess and improve systems to increase the efficiency of our processes.

Desired Skills, Abilities, and Attributes

  • Familiarity with both the US and UK nonprofit legal and regulatory context.
  • Familiarity with multi-entity organizational structures.
  • Experience and knowledge working with DAFs.
  • Solid spreadsheet skills, especially with Google Sheets and/or Airtable.
  • Familiarity with Longview’s cause areas.

This role might not be a great fit if:

  • You prefer working on a small number of large or long-term grants rather than managing a high volume with varying amounts.
  • You thrive in a more structured or slower-paced environment, rather than a dynamic and fast-paced one.
  • You’re less comfortable engaging with a wide range of stakeholders, from grantees to senior leadership, with clarity and confidence.
  • You prefer highly stable priorities and may find a changing strategy or evolving focus area frustrating rather than energizing.
  • You’re less excited by meticulous, detail-oriented work or prefer to focus on big picture strategy.

Application Process

  • First stage: Submit an application and complete a 15-minute screening test (sent after application submission via email).
  • Second stage: First round screening interview 
  • Third stage: Paid 2-6-hour work task
    • We will pay candidates £50/hr ($65/hr) for completing this stage.
  • Fourth stage: Interviews (2 hours) and reference checks
    • We will conduct interviews on a rolling basis starting the week of 8 December.
      • One interview will focus on your background and experience specific to the type of work you’d be doing. The second interview will focus on how you give and receive feedback and on general ways of working at Longview.

  • Fifth stage: In-person or remote 1-5 day work trial (paid)
    • We recognize that a work trial is a significant commitment. An honorarium will be provided to all candidates who complete a work trial, and travel and accommodation costs will be reimbursed.
      • Anyone doing a paid work trial must have the relevant right to work in the place where the trial is being done.
    • We are keen to work with the final candidate(s) to ensure they can complete a work trial and aim to be flexible and accommodating. We recognize it may not be possible in all cases. Please reach out if you are interested in applying but think you’d be unable to complete a work trial.
