Head of Development Operations

Key information

Role: Longview is looking for a Head of Development Operations to build the systems and data environment that a rapidly scaling advisory and grantmaking organisation relies on. This isn’t a role where you inherit a polished machine—you’ll be creating it. You’ll lay the foundations of a development operations function that can support an organisation on track to steward $100m+ annually, with a bespoke model serving UHNW donors making seven-, eight-, and nine-figure gifts.

You’ll work closely with the Chief Partnerships Officer, Advisors, Grantmaking, Finance, and Operations to make sure our donor and grant information is clean, reliable, and useful—helping the organisation understand what’s happening across all our philanthropic vehicles and where our attention should go next. A big part of the job is making the work easier for others: designing tools that feel intuitive, embedding practices people genuinely adopt, and shaping a data environment that supports great advising and great decision-making.

This is a hands-on designer role. You’ll set up the dashboards, workflows, and analytics that help us see donor journeys clearly, understand patterns in giving, and make thoughtful organisational choices. The work you do will directly strengthen how we serve some of the most discerning philanthropists in the world, making significant strides in reducing global catastrophic risks.

Impact of Role:

Longview Philanthropy is a bespoke donor advisory and grantmaking organisation. In 2025, Longview is on track to advise and direct over $60m to high-impact opportunities across AI safety and global catastrophic risk reduction. We anticipate scaling beyond $100m annually in 2026, with the potential to multiply that in the following years.

Longview has built two of the world's largest and most experienced philanthropic teams in their respective fields: one focused on AI safety grantmaking, the other on nuclear weapons policy. These teams support important projects and areas other funders can’t or won’t adequately cover due to capacity, expertise, or risk constraints. As we increasingly shift toward active grantmaking—identifying critical gaps, headhunting founders, and seeding entirely new subfields—we aim to move quickly, take thoughtful bets, and focus on what we believe the world most needs to prevent catastrophic risks.

Achieving that vision requires channelling new levels of capital toward top priorities in AI safety, nuclear weapons policy, and biosecurity. We do this in several ways: we manage, fundraise for, and deploy capital through our four funds (the Emerging Challenges Fund, Frontier AI Fund, Nuclear Weapons Policy Fund, and Digital Sentience Fund). We provide bespoke philanthropic guidance to ultra-high-net-worth donors who prefer to give directly to high-impact organisations, and we are exploring additional philanthropic vehicles to further expand our impact portfolio.

Because Longview operates multiple philanthropic pathways and a highly bespoke advisory model for ultra-high-net-worth donors, we need someone who can see how the full system fits together. The Head of Development Operations will build the dashboards, moves-management systems, and core analytics that support frontline advising and strengthen the donor experience. You will give senior leadership a clear view of what’s happening across vehicles, what needs attention, and where the biggest opportunities lie. Your ability to generate clear, organisation-wide insight will be central to shaping Longview’s strategy and therefore our ability to most effectively address some of the world’s most pressing challenges.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategic Partnership

  • Build the integrated systems and workflows that power world-class advising, aligning grantmaking, finance, and donor management to deliver a flawless experience for highly discerning UHNW donors.
  • Serve as a strategic partner to senior leadership by using cross-functional analytics and emerging patterns to inform choices, strengthen organisational decision-making, and support Longview’s growth.
  • Model high ownership and hands-on execution while shaping the long-term structure of the function, ensuring our operational backbone evolves in step with the needs of frontline fundraisers, the amount of capital we are deploying, and the expectations of UHNW clients.
  • Source and manage contractors, specialists and future hires as needed to support your work.

Adoption & Change Management

  • Produce clear, user-centered SOPs, onboarding resources, and training materials that make systems intuitive and data genuinely useful for end users.
  • Drive strong adoption of new systems and practices across the organisation, ensuring they are implemented consistently and used as intended.
  • Maintain system integrity by preventing backsliding, reinforcing correct workflows, and ensuring teams operate with high data-quality standards.

CRM Architecture & Systems Design

  • Build and oversee Longview’s CRM (Salesforce or equivalent) as the core operating system for donor advising and grantmaking.
  • Assess the value of existing systems (Slack, Asana, Streak) and donor research tools (Wealth-X, RelSci), integrating them with the CRM where appropriate.
  • Design schemas, workflows, and integrations that are intuitive, scalable, and aligned across teams.
  • Ensure system decisions anticipate downstream implications rather than adding complexity.

Technical Project Management & Systems Migrations

  • Lead major technical implementations and CRM migrations.
  • Build timelines, testing plans, milestone tracking, and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Manage vendor performance and ensure continuity of donor and grant data.

Data Quality, Standards & Governance

  • Oversee data audits, cleaning, deduplication, normalisation, and long-term hygiene.
  • Establish clear standards, field definitions, permissions, and compliance practices.
  • Partner with BizOps on data security, backups, and least-privilege access.

Uphold Longview Operating Values

  • Operate with exceptionally high standards of clarity, ownership, and follow-through.
  • Prioritise ruthlessly in a fast-moving environment, making sound judgments under time pressure and navigating ambiguity with calm, reasoned decision-making.
  • Maintain composure in high-stakes or high-volume periods; unblock yourself and others quickly.
  • Demonstrate strong professional assertiveness: challenge assumptions, push back on leadership appropriately, and advocate for systems integrity when shortcuts would create long-term costs.
  • Embody Longview’s culture of transparent reasoning, direct feedback, mission alignment, and continuous improvement.

Ideal candidate

Here are some things we expect to find in a strong Head of Development Operations candidate:

  • Clear judgment: Identifies what matters, avoids overengineering, and makes sound, timely decisions in uncertain contexts.
  • Cross-functional alignment: Builds trust across senior stakeholders, translates between technical and non-technical colleagues, and leads teams effectively through change.
  • Systems architecture & CRM fluency: Designs and maintains CRM systems with a strong grasp of data structures, integrations, and reporting logic.
  • Analytical rigour & insight generation: Turns donor and grant data into meaningful insights, separates signal from noise, and highlights the actions that move the needle.
  • Operations design & scalability: Builds systems that stay simple, reliable, and durable as the organisation grows quickly.
  • Insight synthesis: Spots patterns across donor, pipeline, and grantmaking data and turns them into clear, decision-ready guidance for senior leaders.
  • Communication & execution: Writes and communicates clearly, drives adoption of new systems, and maintains high standards while staying calm under pressure.
  • Experience: Demonstrated success in revenue operations or CRM leadership, including working with complex stakeholder workflows and leading major systems or data projects.

Strong candidates will possess most or all of the above competencies. If you’re on the fence about applying because you’re not sure you meet every qualification, we still strongly encourage you to apply!
